Leo and Tracey are delighted to introduce for the first year the Dorset Tango Festival. We look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful part of the world in Dorchester – Thomas Hardy country! Dorchester is a great place to spend the weekend, it’s a historic market town with lots of shopping and restaurants available. Plus you have the added bonus of the beautiful countryside of Dorset with popular seaside resorts of Weymouth and Lulworth Cove just 10 miles away.
The Corn Exchange is a fantastic Victorian building in the middle of Dorchester Town Centre. It has 2 superb dancefloors. Upstairs is the Town Hall and downstairs is the Grand Hall with a capacity of 350. We are fortunate to be able to use both rooms over the weekend events which start on Friday evening and finish on Sunday afternoon.
The Artists
Nito & Elba
This couple are one of the legends of the Argentine Tango Community. Based in Buenos Aires, they have danced together for over 50 years and during that time have won the Argentine Tango Championships 18 consecutive times! They are the teachers of teachers and their teaching and dancing is based on a lifetime of experience – not to be missed!
Raquel and Alexandr
Raquel has performed in numerous theatres in different productions on stages all over the world (South America, USA, ASIA and Europe), as well as in world tango festivals. Her partner, Alexandr lives in Moscow and is also a professional choreographeras well as dancer. Their style together is elegant Tango Salon.
Miriam and Dante
This couple have become known for their passion for teaching and dynamic and expressive performances and are currently based between London and Oxford. They have been guest artists in tango schools, milongas and festivals across the world They were finalists in the World Tango Championships in Buenos Aires in the category of Tango Salon (de pista) in 2015.
Martin Acosta
As Leo’s son, Martin grew up with Tango and also studied with the world famous Maria & Carlos Rivarola for 4 years. In 2003 he was a finalist in the Mundial de Tango (World Tango Championship), in the Tango Salon category. Martin has also been part of professional dance companies such as R.E.A. Danza and has performed and choreographed in numerous events and festivals across Europe.
Your hosts – Leonardo and Tracey
Leonardo will be celebrating 50 years of dancing Tango in 2017! He is one of the most authentic Milongueros currently living in the UK. After 16 years of living and teaching in London, he has recently moved to the Bournemouth area and together with his partner Tracey has established one of the largest Argentine Tango Schools in Dorset.
DJ Diego Doigneau
Diego is the DJ at Negracha Tango Club, one of London’s key milongas. He has DJ’d in numerous Festivals and milongas throughout the UK.
