Netflix Tango Plan

I explained my brilliant idea for a Netflix series that will bring thousands of dancers to tango. “This Dutch woman, Inge, travels to BA to participate in the Mundial.” “Ah, great, a woman protagonist.” “She hires a taxi dancer, Julio, to enter the competition with her.” “Interesting. Romance?” “No, listen. For each championship round they win, she must pay him $2,000. However, hiring Julio is not a coincidence. Inge intends to expose a criminal cocaine smuggling network run from a popular BA milonga. Their leader is Klaus, Julio’s father. He is an old milonguero who used to be an underground operative for the junta, ratting on revolutionaries. But here’s the thing: he loves tango, knows everything about it. Women love how he dances.”

“Gangsters who dance tango. Nice hook. Many violent scenes?” “Well, we need to attract men to tango, right? I’m thinking Breaking Bad, combined with tango.” “Go on.” “She’s a good-looking, mountain-climbing and martial arts practicing tanguera with a history of dangerous boyfriends, a habit she wants to break.” “Taken from real life, I guess.” “It turns out that a dear friend of hers got killed, while forced to swallow cocaine balls before her flight to Amsterdam; an ugly, bloody affair. The Argentine police haven’t done a thing to find the killer. She intends to find out who did it. Some clues indicate Julio and his father’s milonga.” “Okay, I can see where this is going.”

“Julio introduces her to his father, Klaus. She dances with Klaus and hates to admit that she loves dancing with the macho bastard.” “Her weakness showing.” “Correct. She and Julio pass the first round in the Mundial. She pays him $2000; however, she tells him she’s $2000 short for the final. Julio says he knows a way for her to earn it, as she expected. Klaus pitches his proposal to smuggle for them on her way back to Amsterdam. She secretly informs the police officer on the case what she knows. In an intimate moment, Julio tells her he may not be Klaus’ biological son. His actual parents were likely thrown out of a plane.” “Wow. I didn’t see that last one coming. Some Argentine tragic history woven in.”

“They enter the final, dance their most intense, winning dance ever. We see their mutual attraction growing.” “Intriguing. What happens then?” “The police officer is an old corrupt pal of Klaus, who tells him what she’s up to. A big showdown develops backstage.” “Of course, a Grand Finale!” Klaus attempts to strangle her in a dressing room; she shows off some of her martial arts. Then Julio enters and shoots him! His DNA proves Klaus and his wife adopted him illegally. The police officer arrests Julio and informs Inge it was Klaus who killed the friend.” “That’s it?” What happens to Inge?” “She visits Julio in prison and becomes a show dancer for tourists. End of season 1.” “Any actors in mind?” “Many dancers, of course. For the role of Klaus we need an elderly, innocent-looking man, hair grey-blond.” “Like yours!” “Yes, like mine.” “No cliffhanger for Season 2?” “I forgot. Julio has a brother who finds out he is Klaus’ biological son. We see him with a strange expression on his face, observing Inge dancing in the street…
