La Beba one of those shining dynamic Laurenz instrumentals where he let rip with his dynamic bandoneon. Recorded 30th September 1946. Written by Pugliese but strangely not recorded by Pugliese until 1972.
Strangely because if you read the notes of the upload by the late Paul Bottomer there is an excellent footnote to this song stating
“Osvaldo Pugliese had written a tango, Amargura (Bitterness), but changed the title on the birth of his new daughter, Lucela Delma, to La Beba (The Baby) but Beba stuck and it is by that name that she was subsequently known. Beba followed the family musical tradition and is now a highly successful pianist in her own right.”
A cracking song that deserves way more airtime than it gets.
